The Arizona Diamondbacks took a surprisingly large step forward in 2023 and are attempting to continue the strong momentum in 2024.

Arizona had a very strong 2023 season with 84 wins in the regular season -- an increase from 74 in 2022 -- and then shined in the postseason and made it all the way to the World Series. The Diamondbacks ultimately fell to the Texas Rangers in the World Series but did show that they have plenty of potential.

The Diamondbacks have been busy this offseason and have landed Eduardo Rodríguez to help shore up the rotation and re-signed All-Star Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Now, the Diamondbacks reportedly are looking for a new designated hitter and former Boston Red Sox fan-favorites Justin Turner and J.D. Martinez have been floated as options, according to USA Today Sports' Bob Nightengale.

"The Diamondbacks say they still are in the market for a (designated hitter) with Justin Turner and J.D. Martinez on the radar," Nightengale said. "They’ve had a fabulous winter."

This isn't the first time either Turner or Martinez have been linked to Arizona and it isn't surprising. Both players are on the back end of their careers but were extremely solid in 2023 and could fill an Arizona roster hole.

It wouldn't be too surprising to see one of the sluggers end up there as the market heats up after Orix Buffaloes phenom Yoshinobu Yamamoto chooses where he will play next year.

Martinez may be the most likely fit for Arizona after 33 home runs last season and driving in 103 runs. Plus, he has some experience with the Diamondbacks already. All in all, there have been so many rumors linking these two to Arizona it wouldn't be surprising at all to see a move happen soon with either.
