Top Red Sox Rumored General Manager Target Reportedly Will Not Be Joining Club
The Boston Red Sox have a lot of work to do.
Boston recently let former chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom go and is now looking for a new person to lead the club's baseball operations department heading into an extremely important offseason. The Red Sox are an attractive organization to work for. Boston has plenty of money to spend, intriguing young talent, and isn't too far away from nabbing a playoff spot.
The Red Sox reportedly were interested in bringing in former Boston executive and current Arizona Diamondbacks vice president and general manager Mike Hazen, but he reportedly isn't going anywhere, according to USA Today Sports' Bob Nightengale.
"Despite widespread speculation, the Boston Red Sox will not be hiring Mike Hazen away from the Arizona Diamondbacks," Nightengale said. "Hazen, the D-backs executive vice president and GM, is staying put.
"He is under contract through 2024 with a club option through 2025, and D-backs president Derrick Hall says that the club would deny permission if the Red Sox asked to interview Hazen. They have already had preliminary conversations about an extension. Hazen, who worked with the Red Sox before coming to Arizona in 2016, also has no interest in leaving."
A reunion with Hazen made perfect sense for Boston, although a move will not be happening. Hazen took over the Diamondbacks in 2016 and has turned the club around, despite playing in one of the toughest divisions in baseball. The Weymouth, Massachusetts native would have made sense, but it appears it is time to go back to the drawing board for Boston.
