Angels, Pirates Reportedly Pursuing Controversial Ex-Yankees Pitcher
One former New York Yankees hurler likely will find a new home in the not-so-distant future.
Former Yankees pitcher Domingo Germán is a free agent after spending six seasons with New York. The righty showed some flashes with the Yankees and even threw a perfect game in 2023, but has had multiple off-field issues throughout his stint in New York.
He was suspended earlier in his career after violating the league's personal conduct policy due to domestic violence allegations. Germán left the club in 2023 and entered an alcohol abuse program.
Germán elected free agency earlier this offseason and is looking for his next opportunity and two teams that could be options are the Los Angeles Angels and Pittsburgh Pirates, according to Major League Baseball insider Mike Rodriguez.
"Source: Several teams interested in Domingo Germán," Rodriguez said. "Germán has met several times with the Angels and the Pirates who aim to be one of the finalists."
It's unclear how likely a signing is, but it does sound like he has a solid market in free agency. Germán is just 31 years old and has a career 4.41 ERA. He had an impressive 18-4 record in 2019 to go along with a 4.03 ERA and a 153-to-39 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Both Los Angeles and Pittsburgh have been linked to multiple hurlers in free agency this offseason so it's not too surprising that either would have interest in Germán.
New York still could use another hurler, but a reunion certainly doesn't seem likely at this point.
