Blue Jays Connected To Former Rumored Yankees Free Agent Target

It sounds like the Blue Jays could end up landing a former rumored Yankees target

One player who has been connected to the New York Yankees could end up landing with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Early on this offseason, New York was seen as the top landing spot for 2019 National League Most Valuable Player Cody Bellinger after he returned to form last season with the Chicago Cubs.

There was a time when it seemed like Bellinger was a certainty for the Yankees. New York instead pivoted away and traded for superstar slugger Juan Soto.

Bellinger still is a free agent and it's unclear exactly where he will land. Chicago still seems like the frontrunner to land Bellinger, but one other club that has popped up as a possible option is the Toronto Blue Jays, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.

"At the top of the positional market, the Cubs remain logical for Cody Bellinger," Heyman said, "The Jays, (Seattle Mariners), and (San Francisco Giants) all have been connected. Mostly the same teams are fits for Matt Chapman."

Bellinger is a star and certainly would've helped New York, but when Soto became a possibility, they chose him instead unsurprisingly. The 28-year-old impressed last season and clubbed 26 home runs, drove in 97 runs, and slashed .307/.356/.525 while providing solid defense in the outfield.

The young slugger could make sense for the Blue Jays but that would be tough for New York. If Bellinger were to land with Toronto, he would face off against New York consistently for the foreseeable future.

It's unclear where he will land, but hopefully, he goes back to Chicago rather than Toronto.
