The 2023 campaign may not be going exactly as the New York Yankees have hoped, but that doesn't mean that club doesn't have a bright future.

New York currently is in last place in the American League East with a 53-48 record but still has a fighting chance at nabbing a postseason spot as the team is just two-and-a-half games out of the Wild Card. The Yankees likely will be buyers ahead of the 2023 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline and could add even more firepower to the lineup as the club looks to gain ground in the standings.

No matter what the Yankees decide to do this season, the organization has some exciting prospects that should be making their way to the big leagues in the not-so-distant future. One player that already is turning heads at the minor league level is New York's No. 6 prospect, Drew Thorpe.

The 22-year-old was drafted in the second round of the 2022 MLB June Amateur Draft and quickly has impressed this season. Thorpe began his professional career this campaign with the High-A Hudson Valley Renegades and already has made team history setting new team records in single-game and single-season strikeouts and there's still time left this season. Thorpe already has recorded 13 strikeouts in a start once this season and passed the previous Renegades team strikeout record tally of 118. The righty has 124 strikeouts on the season in 16 starts to go along with an eye-popping 10-1 record and minuscule 2.08 ERA.

While it likely will be a few years until he makes his way to Yankee Stadium, New York fans should be encouraged about the future.
