The New York Yankees are in a little rough patch at the worst possible time.

The 2023 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline is set to pass August 1 and New York may look a little different afterward. Many expected the club to be buyers ahead of the trade deadline, but have lost three of their last four games and now it is unclear what the team will do. New York has been linked to seemingly every possible star available, but the Yankees may be shifting gears and looking to deal players entering free agency, according to the New York Post's Joel Sherman.

"In an indicator that they are at least in partial-sell mode, the Yankees have let interested teams know they are open to talking about their walk-year players — a group headlined by Harrison Bader, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Wandy Peralta, and Luis Severino," Sherman said. "The Yankees continued to try to operate on two tracks — see if they could move out some veterans for prospects and perhaps salary relief while trying to acquire pieces that have control beyond the 2023 season.

"It exemplifies that the leadership is not overly optimistic about the playoff chances of this group as it ponders A.) subtracting and B.) prioritizing upgrades with control beyond the current season."

At this point, it wouldn't be too surprising to see the Yankees deal from the group of Bader, Kiner-Falefa, Peralta, and Severino. New York likely could bring in a solid trade haul for any of the four players -- especially if some were packaged together -- but would indicate the fact that the club doesn't expect to make a run for a postseason spot. Severino would've brought in the biggest trade haul at one point and still could be a buy-low option for a contender but has mightily struggled this season. Bader, Kiner-Falefa, and Peralta all have had solid seasons in their rights this year and could make sense to deal away.

There isn't much time left for speculation as the trade deadline will pass Tuesday night. The Yankees likely will look different afterward, hopefully for the better.
