Insider Predicts Yankees Will Sign Superstar Pitcher Soon
One of the top pitchers in baseball still is available in free agency.
The free agent market has been surprisingly slow this offseason and there still are some major players available. One of the biggest stars available is two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell.
Snell has been mentioned as a fit for a handful of teams but still hasn't gotten a deal yet. The New York Yankees offered him a deal earlier this offseason but the two sides couldn't agree to terms.
While this is the case, The Athletic's Jim Bowden still predicts that he will end up with the Yankees.
"The Yankees, (Los Angeles Angels), (San Francisco Giants), (Boston Red Sox), (Chicago Cubs), (Philadelphia Phillies), and (Seattle Mariners) have all been linked to Snell at points during the offseason, but he's still unsigned as Spring Training gets underway," Bowden said. "I think the Yankees ultimately land him -- especially after the (Baltimore Orioles) traded for Corbin Burnes, removing him as an option -- unless they're able to make a trade with the (Chicago White Sox) for Dylan Cease instead.
"Snell led the majors in ERA, ERA+, and walks last year en route to his second Cy Young Award. His curveball was again dominant (.079 batting average against) and his improved changeup was a difference-maker (.185 batting average against)."
A move would be surprising because the Yankees' payroll already is massive, but with each passing day that he doesn't sign elsewhere, the possibility only grows. If his asking price drops, he could easily be a fit for New York.
New York could still use another starter. Why not sign the superstar?
