Intriguing Fireballer Reportedly Wants To Return To Yankees This Offseason In Free Agency
The New York Yankees will have to be very active this offseason if the club wants to get back to the postseason.
New York had high expectations entering the 2023 campaign but injuries and inconsistent play ruined things. Although this is the case, there were some bright spots and some reasons to believe the club can get back on track this offseason. New York has some solid talent and with a solid move or two could be right back in the playoff conversation with better health.
One player who reportedly wants to return to New York and would be a perfect fit is reliever Keynan Middleton, according to the New York Post's Greg Joyce.
"Middleton was glad he got back before the season ended to prove he was healthy entering free agency again," Joyce said. "A possible reunion with the Yankees could be in the cards.
“Honestly, there’s not too many other places I’m looking at,” Middleton said. “After being here, I don’t know why you wouldn’t want to be here. If it ends up working out, I’d love to come back here. But we’ll see what happens.”
Middleton was acquired by the Yankees this season around the trade deadline from the Chicago White Sox and was exceptional. The fireballer appeared in 12 games for the Yankees and compiled a 1.88 ERA while striking out 17 batters in 14 1/3 innings pitched.
The 30-year-old has been a journeyman throughout his seven-year big league career and has impressed along the way. Overall, Middleton has a 3.84 ERA in 205 games pitched throughout his career. A reunion certainly should be in the cards.
