Reunion With Ex-Yankees Star Fireballer Could Make Perfect Sense For New York
The New York Yankees may have missed out on former Orix Buffaloes ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto, but that doesn't mean the club can't bring in some more star power this offseason.
The Yankees still have plenty of work to do before spring training kicks off despite landing outfielders Juan Soto, Alex Verdugo, and Trent Grisham. New York still needs to add more pitching.
New York has been linked to multiple frontline starting pitchers this offseason and before it is all said and done may end up landing one. Another spot the club will have to address is the bullpen.
The Yankees had the best bullpen in baseball last season but may end up losing a few of their most important hurlers in free agency. It has been rumored that the Yankees could look to land multiple top arms to bolster its bullpen even further and one star free agent who could make sense is Aroldis Chapman.
He is a free agent and is projected to receive a contract with an annual value of just over $7 million which New York certainly could afford. The seven-time All-Star already has spent six-plus years of his career in New York and easily could be brought back in.
The hard-throwing lefty impressed last season with a 3.09 ERA in 61 total outings with the Kansas City Royals and eventual World Series champion Texas Rangers. If the Yankees want to improve the bullpen this offseason, why not bring an old friend back into the mix for his third stint with the club?
