The New York Yankees need to add another frontline starter but may not end up landing one of their rumored targets.

New York has been mentioned as a fit for seemingly every pitcher available. The Yankees need another stud to pair with Gerrit Cole and have money to spend. New York even offered a deal worth $300 million to Yoshinobu Yamamoto but missed out to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Since then, the Yankees have been linked to free-agent targets as well as trade candidates. Chicago White Sox ace Dylan Cease likely will be the best pitcher traded this offseason and so he has been linked to the Yankees. But, New York isn't likely to meet Chicago's trade demands, according to ESPN's Jesse Rogers.

"The New York Yankees could use Cease but aren't likely to meet the trade demands; after dealing multiple young players for Juan Soto and losing some depth via the Rule 5 draft, they seem less likely to further weaken their farm system by giving up top prospect Spencer Jones," Rogers said.

Cease is a star even with a down 2023 season and certainly would help New York. Although this is the case, the Yankees have depleted their farm system this offseason by landing superstar slugger Juan Soto and may not want to trade any more of their top prospects.

Spencer Jones is the club's top prospect and Jasson Domínguez currently is the club's No. 2 prospect. New York still has a strong farm system, but may not want to deal from it anymore this offseason.
