The New York Yankees may end up making the biggest move in baseball this offseason.

While there are sure to be plenty of changes this offseason across baseball, the biggest name to monitor -- aside from Shohei Ohtani -- is San Diego Padres superstar Juan Soto. He is just 25 years old and already is one of the best players in the sport. It's very likely he ends up being traded this offseason and the New York Yankees reportedly have been "closely monitoring" his situation, according to The Athletic's Chris Kirschner.

"But internally discussing the possibility of Soto is not new," Kirschner said. " The Yankees have been closely monitoring the Padres' roster, specifically Soto, and the team's payroll crunch since before this season's trade deadline. With the Padres floundering at the deadline, the Yankees had one of their veteran scouts in San Diego taking inventory of their roster. Yankees officials unsurprisingly think very highly of Soto."

Soto has been linked to the Yankees on multiple occasions. It's unclear if the two sides already have held preliminary discussions about a deal. It has been previously reported that the two sides already have spoken, but it has also been reported that they haven't but plan to soon.

If the Yankees could land Soto this offseason, he would fill the club's biggest hole. New York needs to add a left-handed power bat to the club and also it wouldn't hurt to add a new outfielder. Soto fits both of these needs and immediately would put the Yankees back into postseason contention. This likely won't be the last time the two sides are linked.
