The New York Yankees officially are in the market for a new hitting coach.

New York brought in big league veteran Sean Casey during the 2023 campaign and he seemed to hit it off with the club. Members of the organization spoke very highly of him and there were rumblings he would be returning in 2024, but he announced Wednesday that he will not be back with the club.

“I’m not gonna be able to come back next year (as Yankee hitting coach) because I have my two daughters at home," Casey said. "I think getting divorced a few years ago — I have those girls 50 percent of the time. I just can’t imagine being away for 8 months.”

At this point, it is unclear who could be an option for the Yankees. New York's biggest hole it needs to fill this offseason is on the offensive end. The Yankees need to upgrade the starting rotation, but the offense needs the most work. In 2023, the Yankees finished with the second-worst team batting average at .227. New York also finished with the 27th-ranked team on-base percentage at .304, 29th in hits with 1,207, and 25th in runs scored with 673.

The Yankees have plenty of talent on the roster and likely will add in free agency. The open hitting coach job could end up being a top role for interested candidates.
