The New York Yankees likely are going to be tied to seemingly every big-name player available this offseason.

New York has some money to spend and struggled in 2023 meaning it has some serious work to do. The Yankees finished the season with a disappointing 82-80 record and now have some tough decisions to make this upcoming offseason.

The Yankees reportedly have been in the market for a new power bat and also need to address the starting rotation. SNY's John Harper hinted the team could address both issues this offseason by adding Chicago Cubs star Cody Bellinger and Texas Rangers hurler Jordan Montgomery while listing his 10 bold predictions for the offseason.

"This seems like too perfect of a match for it not to happen," Harper said. "Of course, I thought the same thing when Corey Seager was a free agent two years ago and that didn’t happen, but the Yankees are in a more desperate situation now. And other than (Shohei Ohtani), who will be too expensive for Hal Steinbrenner’s liking, Bellinger is the one free agent who can go a long way toward fixing their offense...

"If the Yankees get Bellinger, Steinbrenner is almost certainly not doing another long-term mega-deal with a pitcher like (Yoshinobu Yamamoto). Not when he’s already locked into big bucks for (Gerrit Cole), (Aaron Judge), Giancarlo Stanton, DJ LeMahieu, and Carlos Rodón. So why not Montgomery, the lefty they traded for Harrison Bader in 2022? He’s an ideal fit behind Cole and Rodón (assuming he figures it out next year), coming off his age-30 season in which he pitched to a 3.20 ERA in 32 starts for the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers."

A move for either Bellinger or Montgomery certainly makes sense. Bellinger will be the best offensive player on the market -- aside from Ohtani -- and has been mentioned as a possible fit for the Yankees on numerous occasions. Montgomery has familiarity with the club and was exceptional this year with the Cardinals and Rangers. There's sure to be plenty more rumors to go around but Bellinger and Montgomery would be a great start to the offseason.
