The New York Yankees got some rough news Monday.

New York currently is waiting on the results of an MRI on superstar pitcher Gerrit Cole's throwing elbow. It's unclear exactly when the club will know if the 2023 American League Cy Young Award winner has a serious injury but nothing can be ruled out at this time.

On the bright side, it has been reported that the MRI is seen as a precaution. While this is the case, Yankees fans will be collectively holding their breath until the results are announced.

In the immediate aftermath of the news of Cole's MRI, many have openly speculated whether or not the club could look to sign two-time Cy Young Award Blake Snell.

Snell has been linked to the Yankees on multiple occasions and the club even offered him a contract at one point this offseason, but it doesn't sound like New York will be making another offer because of the Cole news, according to SNY's Andy Martino.

"The Cole news has not reignited the Yankees’ one-time pursuit of free agent ace Blake Snell, per league sources," Martino said. SNY reported last month that the Yankees pulled their offer to Snell in January after Snell turned it down and the team signed Marcus Stroman. As of Monday afternoon, nothing had changed on that front."

Snell is one of the best pitchers in baseball but he would cost the Yankees a massive amount. He is looking for a deal with an annual value of around $30 million but the club would also face stiff tax penalties due to its already sky-high payroll.

Hopefully, Cole is okay and will not miss any time. Even if he does miss some time, though, it doesn't sound like Snell is coming to town.
