Yankees Top Choice Reportedly 'Totally Open To New York' In Possible Major Splash
The New York Yankees need to add to their starting rotation this offseason.
New York is in win-now mode. The Yankees have the 2022 American League Most Valuable Player in Aaron Judge and the 2023 A.L. Cy Young Award winner in Gerrit Cole. The Yankees' window to win a World Series is right now so the club will need to spend big this offseason to improve the roster after a subpar 82-win season.
The Yankees have been one of a handful of teams who have heavily scouted Orix Buffaloes ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto and it sounds like he may be open to New York, according to SNY's Andy Martino.
"He is a serious fit for (the New York Yankees and Mets)," Martino said. "A guy who I hear is totally open to New York, open to a big market and all that kind of stuff. Oh boy do the Mets like this guy. Everyone who scouted him in Japan likes him. There have been comparisons to Tim Lincecum. Four to five-pitch guy. Nobody who has seen him doubts that he is way better than Kodai Senga. This guy is really, really, really good potentially. So definitely something to watch for the Mets. Something to watch for the Yankees."
Pairing Yamamoto with Cole would give the Yankees one of the most-feared starting pitching duos in baseball. He won't cost as much as Los Angeles Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani and could seriously upgrade the Yankees' rotation. Yamamoto will be posted any day so it won't be long until we find out if the Yankees can get their man.
