Tyler Herro Fuels Trade Rumors By Revising Social Media Profile
With trade rumors continuing to swirl this offseason, Tyler Herro appeared to signal change could be on the horizon based on the Heat guard’s recent social media activity.
Herro’s name has been mentioned as part of conversations concerning possible deals Miami could make to upgrade its roster fresh off the club’s second NBA Finals run in four years. The chatter reached a fever pitch on Saturday after the Heat’s rumored top trade target Damian Lillard requested a trade from the Trail Blazers.
On Sunday, Herro, in the midst of the speculation, made a curiously-timed move on Twitter as the 23-year-old removed “Miami Heat guard” from his bio and replaced it with “Slow motion.”
To this point, there have been no reports of Miami actively looking to deal the dynamic shooter, but it’s clear that Herro, who signed a lucrative extension with Miami last October, seems to have heard the noise.
Despite being lost for Miami’s Finals run in the playoff opener due to a hand injury, Herro–a career 17.7 PPG scorer–figured to resume his premier role in the lineup next season. Of course, those plans could soon change given that Lillard is now officially available.
It remains to be seen if a Lillard-to-Heat move comes to fruition, even with both sides reportedly having mutual interest. But, should talks move forward, the reigning Eastern Conference champions would almost certainly have to part with Herro, the 2022 Sixth Man of the Year, in any scenario.
Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix reported prior to Lillard’s request that Portland is “lukewarm” on the idea of acquiring Herro, who is entering the first year of a four-year, $130 million contract in 2023–24. The former first-round pick has also been linked to the Nets in a possible three-team deal to bring Lillard to Miami.
