Video Footage Unable to Confirm Evidence of Hit-and-Run Involving Kelly Oubre, per Report
The Philadelphia Police Department has not recovered any video footage confirming the hit-and-run account of 76ers guard Kelly Oubre in Center City on Saturday, according to a report from Max Marin, Ximena Conde and Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Oubre was taken to a local hospital Saturday night after telling police that he was the victim of a hit-and-run incident. He was treated at Thomas Jefferson University hospital for injuries to his ribs and lower body, and was later released.
“The Police Department currently does not have any video or photographic evidence that depicts this collision,” Sergeant Eric Gripp, a department spokesperson, told The Inquirer. “We continue to work in hopes of gathering evidence and we encourage anyone who has information to reach out to our crash investigation unit.”
Philadelphia police reviewed video footage from two businesses near where the incident involving Oubre was alleged to have taken place, but there was no evidence of a crash, the business owners told The Inquirer.
Police have not accused Oubre of any wrongdoing, and the investigation is ongoing. However, there is no evidence that currently confirms his account of what happened Saturday night.
Oubre was reportedly walking westbound on the 1400 block of Spruce Street near his residence when he was struck by a vehicle in the upper chest area by the driver’s side window of the vehicle.
Oubre is expected to miss some time with the injury but was able to return to the team's practice facility Tuesday.
“He’s in good spirits,” said Sixers coach Nick Nurse ahead of the team’s game against the Pacers. “He rode the exercise bike for a little bit. So he’s doing OK.”
