Patrick Beverley's Immediate Impact Felt in Assertive Sideline Moment During Bucks Debut
Patrick Beverley is known around the NBA for being a strong personality on the court.
Well, it didn't take long for Beverley, who was dealt from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Milwaukee Bucks ahead of the NBA's trade deadline on Thursday, to make an impact on his new team as a result of said strong personality.
During a sideline huddle, Beverley took matters into his own hands—literally—grabbing new Bucks coach Doc Rivers's clipboard and instructing his teammates as if he was their coach.
The moment, shared by Bleacher Report on X, formerly Twitter, perfectly encapsulated Beverley’s debut with the Bucks, a 120–84 win over the Charlotte Hornets on Friday night.
Beverley scored six points and handed out four assists in just 12 minutes, but his contributions went far beyond the stat sheet. As evidenced by the clipboard moment, the veteran guard clearly was not shy about taking on a leadership role for Milwaukee, something he acknowledged in the postgame.
“The way I go about things, I’m not going to make everyone happy. I’m going to upset some people,” Beverley told reporters after the game, per ESPN. “I hold myself to a high standard and I expect everyone else to do the same. My approach is very strong until you get to know me. But once you get to know me you understand, the only thing he does is want to win.”
As long as the Bucks do win, Beverley's assertive leadership isn't likely to rub anyone the wrong way. A 12-year NBA veteran, Beverley has averaged 8.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.1 steals per game for his career.
