76ers News: NBA Insider Details Latest News on Joel Embiid's Knee Injury

Insider states Joel Embiid could deal with knee injury through the rest of the season.

On Saturday night, Joel Embiid ended up being a late scratch in the Philadelphia 76ers' matchup against the Denver Nuggets. As the reigning MVP missed his second straight game, one NBA insider provided the latest regarding his injury.

Leading up to Saturday's game, Embiid was not on the injury report. However, things changed after he went through his warm-up routine. After seeing him not look 100%, the training staff decided it was best he sit out.

Fast forward to Monday, and Embiid was out of the lineup again. The Sixers listed the All-Star center as out against the Portland Trail Blazers as he continues to deal with knee soreness.

While on NBA Today, Ramona Shelburne provided an update on Embiid. She cited that he couldn't even jump during warm-ups and that this knee issue is something that could linger through the rest of the season.

"He's just managing this knee injury. I think he fully intended to try to play in Denver. He was the one who said to the team, 'I'm playing, leave me off the injury report.'' That knee is an issue he's going to have to manage for the rest of the season," Shelburne said. "There is swelling in there. He couldn't even jump before the Denver game."

With Embiid out of action again, the biggest topic remains the MVP conversation. If he does not play in at least 65 games, he won't be eligible to potentially take home the hardware for a second straight season. Following Monday, Embiid can now only miss five more games the rest of the season before he becomes ineligible.

At the moment, there is no clear timetable on when Embiid will make his return to action.
