Joel Embiid, Luka Doncic and Other NBA Stars Complete Historical Week
On Monday night, Joel Embiid turned heads around the NBA with his standout performance against the San Antonio Spurs.
For the third time in his career, Embiid exceeded 58 points in a single outing. He surpassed his career-high of 59 points, shattering his personal record by dropping 70 points in one night.
With that, Embiid collected his own career-high while notching a franchise record, surpassing the legend, Wilt Chamberlain.
As Embiid’s 70-point outing concluded, all of the league’s attention went over to the Minnesota Timberwolves as the star center Karl Anthony-Towns was putting together a 50-plus-point showing. While he didn’t beat out Embiid’s total, Towns collected 62 points on the same night.
Four days later, Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic ended up scoring 73 points in a shootout victory against the Atlanta Hawks. On the same night, Phoenix Suns’ star Devin Booker scored 62 points of his own.
Just like that, the NBA had a historical week, which featured two 60-plus-point outings on the same day within the same week.
The last time two players across the league scored over 60 points on the same day was back in April of 1978. David Thompson of the Denver Nuggets scored 73 points, while George Gervin of the San Antonio Spurs scored 63.
It happened on two other occasions: on January 17m, 1962, with Jerry West and Wilt Chamberlain, and on December 8, 1961, with Elgin Baylor and Chamberlain.
