Adrian Griffin marvels at Giannis Antetokounmpo's dominating performance
Coach Adrian Griffin was visibly in awe after watching Giannis Antetokounmpo turn in another performance that lifted the Milwaukee Bucks to a 142-129 win over the Washington Wizards on Monday night.
“Unstoppable. He literally is unstoppable,” said Griffin.
Griffin’s remarks were an apt description of Giannis' recent performance as the Greek Freak recorded a back-to-back 40-point performance that helped the Bucks stretch what is by far their longest winning streak to five.
Scoring at will
Antetokounmpo punished the Wizards with 42 points on a sizzling 20-of-23 shooting night from the field.
Giannis’ 87% shooting clip was the highest in a game by a player with at least 20 attempts since Mike Woodson of the Kansas City Kings went 22 of 24 (91.7%) in a 48-point effort against the Houston Rockets on February 20th, 1983.
The two-time MVP said he just played “random basketball” that enabled him to score at will.
“Left block, right block, transition, rim run, off the dribble. Roll, pop — just play random basketball. I think it's harder to guard, harder for them to load up,” Giannis said.
Antetokounmpo also added 13 rebounds and eight assists. The near triple-double performance came after he put up an equally impressive outing in Milwaukee’s 132-125 win over the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday night. Against Dallas, Giannis finished with 40 points, 15 rebounds, and seven assists.
Nothing has been easy
The seven-time All-Star has already put up seven 30-point games this season, a stellar scoring run that includes two 40-point performances and one 50-point outing.
Giannis has made it a habit to stuff the stat sheet on a nightly basis, but the athletic forward was quick to shoot down the notion that he is doing it with ease.
“I wish it was easy. I wish I could come in and score 42 every game, but it's hard. You've got to work extremely hard to get comfortable, to get in your rhythm, to get to your spot, to playmake for yourself, to playmake for your teammates. It's hard,” Giannis said.
