Alex Caruso credits hard work and confidence in his high shooting marks for the Bulls this season
One of the focal reasons why the Chicago Bulls continue their slide and are centered on the league's trade talks is the crushing rate of their offense.
As of writing, the Bulls are currently ranked 25th in the NBA's offensive rating (109.4), while plenty of their rotational units tally a discouraging 40 percent and below efficiency from the field individually.
But amid the ongoing scoring struggles and plenty of off-court distractions, Chicago found a silver lining in the form of Alex Caruso, who has been on a roll offensively this season.
Confidence and hard work are the keys
The Bulls brought Caruso on their side in the 2021 free agency strictly to enhance their defensive and hustle department. Still, it has been a delightful surprise that the energetic swingman suddenly found an offensive outburst this season.
In 11 games played, Caruso is averaging 9.5 points, and this number is credited to his tremendously team-high 63.2 percent shooting from the field out of 5.2 attempts. Within this, he is registering a lasering 50 percent from downtown. While the sample size is relatively low given the current early stages of the 2023-24 season, it remains a testament to Alex's hard work.
In their recent 102-97 win against the Miami Heat on Saturday, Caruso helped the Bulls deliver a comeback victory by tallying 11 points in 4/8 shooting. A clutch trey with 51.8 seconds remaining pushed his team atop with a three-point margin.
"This is probably the most unattached to results that I've been in my life basketball-wise as far as shots going in or out," Caruso said. "And that's probably why I'm making most of them. There's a part of me that doesn't care. If I'm open, I shoot it. I'm playing basketball, competing to win. If it's the right shot, take it. Trust the work. I worked really hard this summer and this preseason and during the season. There's no reason not to shoot them."
Maintaining the offensive Carushow
In the end, the Chicago guard wants to give flowers in his revamped confidence that allowed him to shoot lights out from the field so far this year. The fact that he's been moved by coach Billy Donovan in his starting lineup for the foreseeable future, Caruso can only think that the only way is up for him to continue his impressive shooting for the Bulls.
