Coby White is a highly touted guard who hails from Goldsboro, North Carolina, and was recruited to join the iconic University of North Carolina Tar Heels basketball squad. Later on, he was selected seventh overall by the Chicago Bulls in the 2019 NBA Draft, so it’s not like White has not been at the center of the spotlight.

However, White’s standout performances on the court have garnered much more attention lately. And while some athletes might revel in this newfound fame, White admits he’s still getting used to all the attention, both from the media and opposing defenses.

All-Star campaign

White has been balling lately, averaging 24.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game this month. His white-hot shooting has lifted the Bulls from the Eastern Conference standings' doldrums and earned him consideration for an All-Star spot.

His teammates—specifically DeMar DeRozan and Alex Caruso—believe he’s worthy and have begun campaigning for his inclusion in the upcoming extravaganza this February 2024, whether it’s the Three-Point Contest or the All-Star Game itself.

“Yeah, I mean, I don’t like all the attention,” White said.

“And that’s probably part of the reason why (Caruso) did it. Because he knows it makes me kind of uncomfortable.”

Comes with the territory

White admits all the hoopla is getting on his nerves but quickly adds he’s perfectly okay with it.

“It’s already starting to get on my nerves. But it’s cool. I guess it’s what comes with it,” White stated.

White is also getting on the nerves of defenders and opposing coaches alike, with his long-range shooting and crafty drives causing chaos on the court. One coach who recently got a firsthand look at the devastation that White causes on opposing defenses is the Los Angeles Lakers’ Darvin Ham.

“They’re a strong drive-and-kick team. And sometimes that happens; you lose one of your main pillars, and other guys get a chance to step up and get a bigger and better opportunity, more minutes. They’ve got several guys playing at a high level, starting with Coby White,” said Ham after the Lakers lost 124-108.
