One rumored team is not interested in acquiring Zach LaVine
Since the Chicago Bulls started its zigzagging progress at this initial portion of the new NBA season, many reports have already highlighted Zach LaVine as the main man on the hunt. And while the All-Star guard has undeniably grown frustrated with how his name was dragged and passed around in countless trade speculations for the Bulls, a handful of well known and expected teams were already linked up to his microwave scoring service at the other hand.
But amongst these teams that have been tagged, one notable team reportedly isn't even entirely included in the LaVine sweepstakes.
No Heat
According to Miami Herald sports columnist Barry Jackson, a close source has indicated that the Miami Heat hasn't been on the run to trade for Zach LaVine.
Jackson pointed out that he'll personally get surprised once Miami suddenly changes its stance regarding Lavine. He went on to provide financial and flexibility reasons why a trade for the star shooting guard isn't on the table, while also even noting that the club is fully hesitant to throw Tyler Herro in Chicago.
But any trade involving those two would add $58 million to Miami’s payroll in salary during the next four seasons, and potentially tens of millions in tax dollars.
Keep in mind that Herro is due to earn $27 million this season and $29 million, $31 million and $33 million the next three seasons. LaVine is earning $40.1 million this season, $43 million next season, $45.9 million in 2025-26 and $48.9 million in 2026-27, if he exercises a player option on that final season, he added.
Moving forward
The Heat's skepticism in going all in for LaVine is understandable, and the fact that they didn't even let go of Herro just to acquire Damian Lillard from the Portland Trail Blazers last offseason just serves as major proof of their unwavering belief in the rising star’s potential.
Nonetheless, the work continues for both LaVine and the Bulls to recover their season after a disastrous start. And while there has been a reported rift between both sides due to trade rumblings, teammates of LaVine and even coach Billy Donovan have reiterated that the 27-year-old is still locked in to aid the franchise.
LaVine’s scoring averages this season might have dropped, but there's a small proof to think about for now about his legitimate trade standing.
