Patrick Williams explains the sudden aggressive turnaround that aided the Bulls' hot streak
While Coby White has been gaining the most love and attention within the team due to the bold backcourt takeover he's fulfilling in the wake of Zach Lavine's absence, real ones still acknowledge what Patrick Williams has been flashing for the Bulls.
Since Chicago started winning and turning season around, P-Will went through his emergence. In the last four games, he is averaging 13.5 points, 5.2 boards, 1.7 steals, 1.5 blocks in 55 percent shooting.
Against the Spurs on Friday, he demonstrated aggressiveness and consistency on both ends of the floor. Williams finished with 20 points, six boards and three dimes while also providing that key defense in holding down Victor Wembanyana.
Locked in
After having a horrendous statistical display to start the season, Pat is finally discovering things and realizing the potential he yields as a well-rounded big man.
He remains locked in and ready for the challenge. The 22-year-old also trusts his guts and eagerness to continue his impressive contributions to the Bulls’ step-by-step progress.
“Not really thinking about anything, really,” Williams said of his ongoing turnaround. “Just going out and playing hard. You make shots, miss shots, just get back on defense, next-shot mentality. It’s been working for me.’’
Aggressiveness is the key
Billy Donovan couldn't be more happy to see that Williams is now starting to feel his groove and maintain that confidence on a nightly basis.
The Bulls' head coach fully understands that they won't be stepping on their current winning streak without that newfound assertiveness, which Patrick can only tap.
“I think he really believes he's figuring it out,” Donovan said of Williams. “I don't think he necessarily feels like it's anybody who's got to direct to him or talk to him. Certainly he wants to watch film. But the energy and the motor gotta come from with inside of him. … But it's good to see how consistently he's been playing. Never mind the scoring, but just the way he's been playing and attacking.”
