The Cavs Are Headed Back To The Playoffs, But The Job Isn't Done Yet
Cleveland Cavaliers fans woke up on Monday morning with nothing but a smile knowing that their team would be back in the NBA Playoffs for the first time in almost five years. It'll also be the first time Cleveland has made it to the playoffs without LeBron James in almost 25 years.
This doesn't mean it's time for the Cavs to take their foot off the gas.
After Sunday evening's game, Donovan Mitchell acknowledged this saying that three seed is something that the team is still capable of achieving. He went on to say, "'...three seed is in play.' That's the goal and we should come to a point now where that's what is expected of us."
J.B. Bickerstaff mirrored this same attitude after the game saying, "We told the guys, 'enjoy this, but we ain't done yet.' I think that's the mindset we got to continue to have. We're still on the road of this process and we got to keep taking it step by step until we get to where we want to be."
It's a great thing when both of the leaders on the team are on the same page with the message they are trying to send to the rest of the players. Plus, their message needs to be heard.
As exciting as all of this is, the job isn't done yet. The Cavs clinched a spot in the playoffs, but that does not mean they're locked into a seed yet.
This means they could climb up and grab the three seed that Mitchell was talking about. However, it also means if they lose focus they could drop and lose the home-cour advantage that they've worked so hard for.
