Darius Garland said that the Cleveland Cavaliers needed to come out and "hit first" after being outplayed in Game 1 against the New York Knicks. DG wasn't just trying to please the media and fans with that quote. He took it to heart and came out strong in Game 2.

He finished the first half of Game 2 with 26 points and three assists while shooting 60 percent from the floor and 2-for-3 from behind the arc. Garland clearly picked up his aggressiveness on the offensive end and worked to get to the basket. DG kept driving to the rim and was rewarded by shooting 9-for-10 from the free-throw line.

This stat line will be important for the Cavs to get back into this series, but Garland also sets Cavaliers history with it as well.

Garland joins Kyrie Irving and LeBron James as the only three players to score 25 or more points in a playoff half in the last 25 seasons.

There's been a lot of talk about Cleveland entering a new era of basketball after heavily relying on LeBron to lead the way over the last two decades. This is the first time the team is in the playoffs without the kid from Akron since 1998 and they're looking to make some noise.

Garland signed a five-year, $193 million extension in the offseason so he'll be around to break many more Cavalier records for the foreseeable future.
