Darius Garland Makes Cavaliers History In Second Consecutive Game
After scoring his 5,000th career regular season point in last night’s game, Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Darius Garland once again made franchise history tonight in their 120-113 defeat to the Boston Celtics.
This time, his historic feat was from behind the three-point line.
When Garland hit a three-pointer with 2:07 remaining in regulation, it was the 586th of his regular season career.
This moved him past 2016 NBA Champion J.R. Smith, who hit 585 regular season threes for Cleveland, for the sixth-most triples in Cavaliers history.
The 2022 All-Star continues to climb the Wine and Gold’s three-point ranks, as he eclipsed Daniel Gibson’s 578 regular season threes with Cleveland four days ago in a victory over the Miami Heat.
Tonight, Garland tallied four of the Cavaliers’ season-high 19 makes from behind the arc. Overall, he totaled 26 points, two rebounds, a game-high seven assists, one steal, and two turnovers.
Garland has now scored at least 26 points in three of Cleveland’s last four games, and is averaging 26.5 points per game in the Wine and Gold’s last four contests.
Next on the Cavaliers’ all-time regular season three-pointers list is Cedi Osman, who drained 628 triples in 404 such games with Cleveland.
But Garland has another milestone within a closer reach. With his seven assists tonight, he is now just 10 assists away from passing Craig Ehlo for 10th on the Wine and Gold’s all-time regular season assists list.
This feat could potentially occur when the Cavaliers face the Celtics in Boston again on Thursday night.
Regardless, with his recent performances, Garland has continued his ascent up Cleveland's career leaderboards.
