Evan Mobley Named To Defensive First Team, Sets NBA History
Evan Mobley has garnished the reputation of being a terrific defender all the way back when he was in college. It was something that NBA scouts highlighted before he was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
That defense has translated beautifully to the NBA as Mobley was named to the NBA's All-Defensive First Team in just his second season in the league. The last time this happened was during the 1998-99 season when Tim Duncan made the team.
The other players to join Mobley are Alex Caruso, Jrue Holiday, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Brook Lopez.
Moley is now just the third member of the organization to make the First Team. The other two players to do this are LeBron James and Larry Nance.
Mobley finished the season with a defense rating of 108.1 which ranked as the fourth-best in the NBA. He also tallied 119 blocks which were sixth most in the league-leading all players in defensive shares with 4.8, per Basketball Reference.
It's pretty clear that Mobley is already one of the best defenders in the league and he's only going to get better from here.
Cleveland's big man was 21 years, 295 days old when the season ended. That age makes Mobley the second youngest player in NBA History to be voted to the First Team. The only other player in history to be given this acclimated while at a younger age was Kobe Bryant.
You know you're in some elite company when you're right behind Kobe.
With Mobley's age, talent, and development, it's likely this won be the first time he's named to All-Def First Team.
