Nick Gilbert, the son of Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert, sadly passed away on Saturday after a battle with neurofibromatosis. He was only 26 at the time of his passing.

Myesha Johnson of the Detroit News reported that "Nick died peacefully at home surrounded by family."

Nick became somewhat of a good luck charm for the team as he represented them at the Draft Lottery. In two of the lotteries, the Cavaliers ended up getting the number one overall pick.

The most iconic moment from this came in 2011. The Cavs had just a 2.8 percent chance to win the lottery thanks to a draft pick from the Los Angeles Clippers. With Nick in attendance, Cleveland secured the first overall pick which would be used to draft Kyrie Irving.

Nick's passing came after the Cavaliers dedicated the 2022-23 season to him. They wore bow ties on their warm-up jerseys and the emblem could be seen around the arena honoring his iconic style.

Dan and Jennifer Gilbert started NF Forward in 2017. This is a foundation that work does research and works to find a cure for neurofibromatosis.
