Evan Mobley Announced As 2022-23 NBA Defensive Player Of The Year Finalist
Finally, a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers is getting some recognition for their spectacular defense!
On Friday evening, the NBA announced that Evan Mobley was one of three finalists for the 2022-23 Defensive Player of the Year Award. The other finalists are the Milwaukee Bucks' Brook Lopez and the Memphis Grizzlies' Jaren Jackson Jr.
It'll be a tall task for Mobley to actually win the award, but it's a huge honor for the sophomore to be considered one of the best defenders in the NBA.
It would've been surprising if a member from the Cavs didn't appear on this list. They finished with the best defensive rating in the NBA of 110.6 and they held this title for the majority of the season.
Mobley himself was obviously a huge part of this. He averaged 0.8 steals a game and 1.5 blocks and held a defensive rating of 108.1 which was third-best in the NBA. Ironically, he only trailed his teammate Jarrett Allen and Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Mobley will have a chance to put this defense on display in the playoffs as the Cleveland Cavaliers tip off with the New York Knicks on Saturday at 6:00 PM.
