Evan Mobley Puts On Clinic Against Nuggets Despite Cavs Loss
The Cleveland Cavaliers suffered yet another dissipating loss that came down to the final minutes in crunch time. Before the All-Star break, it was the 76ers who got the best of them but on Thursday night it was the Denver Nuggets.
One player who shined despite the loss was Evan Mobley.
There was a point in time this season when some fans around the NBA believed Mobley wasn't getting any better from his rookie season and in some cases maybe even regressing. He's putting all of that talk to rest with his recent play and his performance against the Nuggets was a perfect example of this.
Mobley finished the night with a team-high 31 points. He did this all with fantastic efficiency shooting 12-for-19 from the floor and he even knocked down a couple of threes to go along with this. Mobley is clearly getting much more comfortable shooting from behind the arc which should be a scary sight for the rest of the NBA.
One of the most impressive parts of this performance was Mobley was putting on a clinic in the paint even with MVP-favorite Nikola Jokic on the floor.
Mobley completely took over the third quarter and even threw down this poster putback:
Even after a fantastic individual performance such as this one, Mobley focused on the team after the game. He said:
"We're still a young team so it just takes experience and just learning from our mistakes as quick as possible and I think we've been doing that so far."
One thing is starting to become clear if the Cavs are going to begin to close out these close games. That is getting Mobley involved both on offense and defense down the stretch.
