All-Star Weekend is in the rearview mirror, and teams are gearing up for the season's home stretch before the playoffs get started. Now's a great time to reflect on the numerous star players in the league and see how they stack up with one another.

This is exactly what Brad Botkin of CBS Sports did in his latest ranking of the top 50 players for the 2022-23 season. Spoiler alert but multiple Cleveland Cavaliers are on his list.

These are the positions he gives them.

  • Jarrett Allen - 42nd
  • Evan Mobley - 37th
  • Darius Garland - 33rd
  • Donovan Mitchell - 11th

By the looks of it, I would say this is a pretty fair assessment of where each player stands in the NBA. All four players absolutely deserve to be on this list!

There is certainly an argument to be made that DG deserves to be a little higher up. For example, he has James Harden, another guard who is averaging 21.4 points and 10.8 assists a game, ranked at 20 while Garland, who is averaging 21.7 points with eight assists night down at 33.

You could also make the case that Mitchell deserves to be in the top 10 especially if we are talking about this season alone. The shooting guard has a 71-point game under his belt, is averaging over 27 points, and has shown up when the Cavs need him the most.

However, Steph Curry comes in at seven while he's missed 12 more games than Mitchell, and Curry's 5.4 win shares are significantly lower than Mitchell's 6.8.

I will admit that these types of lists are incredibly hard to make. There is so much talent in the NBA right now and it can feel like splitting hairs between two or three players.

But they're also a ton of fun to discuss!
