LeBron James Becomes NBA's All-Time Leading Scorer, A Cavs Perspective
The record that was once thought to be unbreakable has finally been broken.
On Tuesday night LeBron James officially passed Kareem Abdul Jabbar to become the all-time leading scorer in NBA history.
The play happened at the very end of the third quarter of the Lakers' game against the Thunder. With 10 seconds to go in the quarter, LeBron hit his famous fadeaway jump shot from the top of the key to cementing his place in history.
Whether you think LeBron is the best basketball player ever or not, there's no denying that he's among the NBA legends and will be a historical figure years after he is done playing basketball.
However, you can't tell the full story of James' career without mentioning his two stints in Cleveland. The Akron native was drafted by the Cavaliers in 2003 and then left for Miami in 2010. He returned during the summer of 2014 and eventually led the Cavaliers to become Finals champions in 2016.
LeBron has now scored 38,388 points (and counting) over his 20-year career with the majority coming in a Cavaliers uniform. In his 11 seasons in Cleveland, LeBron scored a total of 23,119 points, which is also atop the Cavaliers' record books.
This is more points scored than when he was in Miami and Los Angeles combined! Between both of those teams, he's scored a total of 15,270.
A lot of people will want to remember LeBron as a member of the Heat or Lakers because they are large market cities with historical franchises. However, his story can't be told without Cleveland.
