Celtics Guard Wins NBA Player of the Week For First Time in Career After Massive Week
The Boston Celtics got some good news Monday.
Celtics guard Derrick White officially was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the first time in his career after helping to propel Boston to a 4-0 record last week, according to the official NBA Twitter account.
The Celtics have been shorthanded to say the least and White stepped up in a major way to keep Boston on track. Boston was without the services of Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart, Robert Williams, Al Horford, and Malcolm Brogdon at different points this past week but were able to remain undefeated in large part due to White's performance.
White started each of the Celtics' four games last week and shined in each contest. In that span, the Boston guard averaged 24.5 points per game and eclipsed 20 points in three out of the four games. He also tallied 7.5 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game as well.
Boston likely will need White to continue his recent level of play as the team still is shorthanded. The Celtics will return to action Tuesday night when they hit the road to take on the Milwaukee Bucks with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
