Negotiations between the Celtics and Jaylen Brown hit a snag when the latter, a vice president of the National Basketball Players Association, went to Spain for an NBPA event, pausing discussions on his extension.

But now the two-time All-Star's back in Boston, where he spoke at a basketball court redesign at the Fenelon Street playground in Dorchester, where he conveyed, "Nothing fills my heart more than being able to be a part of my community and (to) be able to do projects like this."

And with Brown back in the city he stars in, he and the Celtics can continue sorting out the finer points of his veteran supermax extension, which could be worth up to $304 million.

Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe reports contract talks between the two sides will resume next week.

Key details regarding the particulars of the deal include whether the All-NBA wing will have a player option and a trade kicker. As a seven-year veteran, Brown's one season shy of qualifying for a no-trade clause. But the kicker's a way for him to get up to 15 percent of his salary in bonus money if he's dealt.

Considering that in two years, he and Jayson Tatum will account for roughly 70 percent of the team's cap space if they sign veteran supermax extensions this summer and next offseason, respectively, and they're still on the Celtics then, the absence of a trade kicker could result in leaving money on the table.

Of course, Boston's seen its All-NBA tandem lead the franchise to the Eastern Conference Finals four times in their first six years together and come within two wins of a title. Considering Brown, 26, just entered his prime, and Tatum, who turns that age in March, will start that ascension this season, the organization has a desire to see what the duo can accomplish as they mature.

The results of the next season or two could compel Brown and Boston to continue working together, and the Celtics finding other ways to adapt to the punitive nature of the NBA's new collective bargaining agreement.
