Jaylen Brown is set to become a free agent in the summer of 2024. His past three seasons with the Boston Celtics, which include two All-Star selections, will help upcoming contract negotiations.

It’s expected that the NBA’s new national television deal will lead to an increase in salary cap. This will encourage incoming free agents, such as Brown, who’s current four-year $106.33 million contract is considered below market value, to bargain for better deals.

In an interview with Logan Murdock of The Ringer, Brown expressed uncertainty towards continuing his career as a Celtic.

“I don’t know. As long as I’m needed. It’s not up to me,” Brown said. “We’ll see how they feel about me over time and I feel about them over time. Hopefully, whatever it is, it makes sense. But I will stay where I’m wanted. I will stay where I’m needed and treated correct.”

The Celtics star will be eligible for a supermax contract extension if he makes an All-NBA team this season. In this case scenario, Boston could offer him approximately $290 million over five years.

When asked how long he’d like to team up with Jayson Tatum, the 26-year-old focused on the present moment.

“I just enjoy the time that you have now,” Brown said. “If it’s your whole career, it’s your whole career. If it’s not, it’s not. Some of the greatest players of all time haven’t finished with their organization. Michael Jordan retired a Wizard. As much as we like it here and enjoy being here, you see where life takes you. You see how the process goes. All you do is really focus on what’s in front of you right now, to be honest. But I don’t really know or want to answer that question because that type of stuff makes Celtics fans speculate and go crazy. Especially right now, I’ll just say we’ll get there when we get there.”

The Celtics are considered serious championship contenders with the current framework of Tatum and Brown. The dynamic duo are expected to play together for at least one more season.
