In an interview with Jeff Goodman of The Messenger, Jayson Tatum revealed that he’d like to be known as an all-time great Boston Celtic. Tatum acknowledged the organization’s most influential players and set a goal to reach their level of greatness.

“I would love to be on the Mount Rushmore of Celtics,” said Tatum. “Bird, Russell, Paul Pierce and those guys. They paved the way. The one thing all those guys have is chips. I have to get to the top of the mountain to even be considered as one of those guys. I want to be an all-time great, I want to be known as a winner, and I believe I will be.”

Over the past few seasons, Tatum has been on the verge of winning a championship. The Celtics have reached the Eastern Conference Finals three times over the past four years, with one of those appearances resulting in an NBA Finals series against the Golden State Warriors.

At 25-years-old, Tatum is already starting to make his case as one of Boston’s greats. Last season, the St. Louis native became the first player in Celtics history to average 30 or more points per game.

With the re-signing of Jaylen Brown and acquisition of Kristaps Porzingis this summer, the Celtics will likely remain championship contenders for the foreseeable future. It’s also expected that Tatum will be in serious contention for next season’s MVP award.
