During a recent episode of 1080 The Fan's Danny and Dusty show, host Danny Marang said the LA Clippers have "thrown their hat in the ring" on a Damian Lillard trade.

It's important to note that prior to these comments, Marang listed several other teams - saying not all of them are directly interested in Lillard, but could serve as a facilitators in a multi-team trade that lands him elsewhere. If the Clippers have indeed gotten involved, this is the likeliest scenario.

Without the assets for Lillard, and already with a starting point guard in Russell Westbrook, the Clippers are not a likely landing spot for him. That said, they do have several expiring contracts that could help facilitate a multi-team deal with the Portland Trail Blazers and Lillard's landing spot. Marang also mentioned the Philadelphia 76ers as one of the teams to throw their hat in the ring, so perhaps this creates an avenue for them to resolve their James Harden situation.

There have been a lot of conflicting reports surrounding Lillard the last several days, but the Clippers throwing their hat in the ring as a potential facilitator makes a lot of sense. Currently over the maximum roster capacity, the Clippers need to make at least one move before the season begins. While that could be as simple as waiving a non-guaranteed player, it could also be a deal that sends out two or three players in exchange for one.
