Former Clippers Star Gets Honest About Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Trade
When Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was drafted by the Clippers as the 11th pick in the draft, not many people knew he would become a top-10 superstar in the NBA. One person who did know though was his vet on the Clippers, Lou Williams.
Lou Williams revealed on FanDuel's Run It Back show that he was absolutely devastated when the Clippers had to trade Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. The reason being was that Williams knew just how good Shai was going to become in the future.
“We were heartbroken when he got traded. Absolutely, we were crushed. Even though it was for Paul George. We knew who PG was, but he had spent so much time and energy just being instrumental into his career and his development. Just making sure he's getting extra shots. He was so open to information, so open into learning and wanted to be great. We knew he was going to be one of those players."
Last season, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander averaged an astonishing 31.4 points, 5.5 assists, and 4.8 rebounds on 51/35/91 shooting. His numbers were truly that of a superstar, and he's become an undeniable force in the league. The next step for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander though, is translating his numbers into important playoff wins for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Once that happens, then there can be a real judgment on whether the trade was worth it for the Clippers.
