James Harden Makes History vs Houston Rockets
James Harden's performance against the Houston Rockets on Friday night may be remembered for his game-winning four-point play, but he actually made history in a different category - passing.
After Friday night's game against the Houston Rockets, James Harden moved up to 19th all-time on the NBA's total assist record. Harden now has 7,037 assists and next above him is Tim Hardaway Sr. with 7.095 assists.
To crack the top 10 assists ranking may be an impossible task for James Harden at this point in his career. At the number 10 spot is Isaiah Thomas with 9.061 assists. With the way Harden doesn't have to carry a team's entire offensive system anymore on the Clippers, it's highly unlikely he has an assist pacing like he once had before.
Passing has certainly become one of the most underrated parts of James Harden's game. He's the only player in NBA history with 3 scoring titles and 2 assist titles. Lost in all of the foul-baiting, stepbacks, and scoring, has been Harden's ability to be one of the greatest passers in the league. When he calls himself the system of a team, it's because he can be the best scorer and passer on a team - quite literally, an offensive system.
The Clippers finally got their first win of the season in the James Harden era on Friday night, but need to keep the momentum going against the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night.
