Kyrie Irving to Meet With Lakers and Clippers

Dallas Mavericks free agent Kyrie Irving will meet with the LA Clippers and Los Angeles Lakers

While Kyrie Irving is expected to re-sign with the Dallas Mavericks, it was reported by Bill Reiter of CBS Sports that Irving will meet with the Miami Heat, Houston Rockets, LA Clippers, and Los Angeles Lakers.

This is an interesting group of teams, especially the two LA teams, because outside of Houston there is not much cap space available in this group. There are of course ways that teams can get creative in freeing up space, but that would also come at the expense of other pieces on the roster, which makes things complicated.

Irving is always unpredictable, so there is no way to be certain that he will return to the Mavericks; however, that does seem like the likeliest outcome at this time. Reports have surfaced about Irving wanting to find somewhere he can spend the remainder of his career, so it will be interesting to see how he handles this free agency process.

Both the Clippers and Lakers could be in the market for a starting point guard depending on what their own free agents do. Both Russell Westbrook and D'Angelo Russell will be free agents this summer, and while there is reported mutual interest between those two point guards and their respective teams, things can change fast.

Exploring all options, the Clippers and Lakers are doing their due diligence with Irving.
