Amid the stalled James Harden trade talks between the LA Clippers and Philadelphia 76ers, NBA legend Paul Pierce shared a controversial take on "The Ticket and Truth" podcast, saying this could be Harden's last year in the NBA.

“This could possibly be James Harden’s last year in the league,” Pierce said. “I mean, think about it — he’s made a lot of money. And this has nothing to do with his game. But we saw this happen with Allen Iverson. We saw it happen with [Carmelo Anthony], even though Melo chose to play a certain role and got back in and played for a few years, but James wants to play a certain way. What style fits to where James Harden can go, and they can welcome him with open arms and say, ‘This is your team,’ or, ‘Are you gon’ play a role here?'”

While Pierce has a point about players being pushed out early because they could not accept a role, that doesn't seem to be the case with Harden. One of the greatest scorers in NBA history, Harden took a back seat to Joel Embiid in Philadelphia and became a pass-first point guard for the 76ers. If he were to end up on the Clippers, there is no reason to think Harden would not make that same adjustment for Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.
