Prospect Profile
After losing in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in his sophomore season, Carter and Friars came back extremely hungry and looking to build off of what they had already built. Along the way, the dynamic guard has emerged as Providence’s best player, as he’s taken a significant jump as a prospect this season.
In nearly every major statistical category, the guard has been one of the best on the roster, showing how well-rounded he is. What scouts absolutely love about Carter is the toughness and grit he plays with. He is a two-way talent that really has the ability to make an impact early in his NBA career.
Carter’s scoring, efficiency and passing numbers have all improved significantly this season as he’s taking on a much bigger offensive role. The 6-foot-3 guard has showcased the ability to score at a high level, but also efficiently. He has also been a great passer and facilitator on the offensive end. He’s a much bigger threat at scoring on the ball compared to what we were used to seeing the prior two seasons.
Throughout his college career, Carter has been known for his tenacious defensive ability and he has still been very good on the defensive end this season. He’s generated a tremendous amount of blocks, steals and deflections this season, showcasing his defensive playmaking ability. His quickness, activity on and off the ball and great defensive instincts make him one of the top guard defenders in college basketball.
Overall, Carter has really turned his game into something the NBA loves, which is an elite point-of-attack defender who can shoot it consistently and make the little plays needed to win basketball games. The 6-foot-3 guard is known for making big buckets and being the difference in the clutch. Carter is also an elite rebounder for a guard and always finds himself in the right place on the court.
Carter is a former four-star recruit and top 100 player in his high school class. He also has basketball pedigree, with his father (Anthony) playing at Hawaii in college before 13 seasons in the NBA and ultimately now being an assistant coach for the Memphis Grizzlies.
