NBA Summer League: California Classic Schedule and Participants

In one of the three NBA Summer League circuits, six teams will compete in Sacramento next month.

Less than two weeks after the 2023 NBA Draft, an NBA Summer League circuit will be underway at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento. The 5th annual California Classic Summer League will feature the Kings, Warriors, Lakers, Hornets, Heat and Spurs starting on July 3.

While the Kings, Warriors, Lakers and Heat historically play in this tournament, the Spurs (No. 1 overall pick) and Hornets (No. 2 overall pick) will be added this summer and hold the first two picks in Thursday’s draft. Furthermore, the Lakers (No. 17), Heat (No. 18), Warriors (No. 19) and Kings (No. 24) each have top 25 selections.

As such, there should be a wide variety of top-tier incoming rookies at this event. They’ll be joined by sophomores and athletes competing to make NBA and G League regular season rosters.

The event itself will have game action on two days — July 3 and July 5 — and will feature a triple-header matchup each day with all six teams participating.

Meanwhile, Salt Lake City will host a four-team event at the same time before all 30 teams head to Las Vegas for the biggest NBA Summer League circuit.

It’s still unclear whether the incoming top pick in Victor Wembanyama will actually compete in Sacramento, or any summer event for that matter. He’s coming off of a deep postseason run in France that just ended last week. Regardless, there will be a handful of other first-round talents that take the floor.
