Prospect Profile

An Alabama freshman, Stevenson is a jumbo forward that is built for the modern game. He’s nearly a 7-footer, but has the skillset to stretch the floor and do much more than a traditional big. He’s also one of the youngest players in the country and will play his entire freshman season at 18 years old. In fact, he doesn’t turn 19 until right before the start of the 2024-25 NBA season.

The shot mechanics for Stevenson are incredibly impressive for his size, as he’s well balanced with a quick, smooth release. Not only is he able to knock down shots on the perimeter, but he’s shown willingness to attempt triples on high volume. At the NBA level, the spacing he could provide an offense would be of extreme value. He also has good vision for a forward and has no problem bringing the ball up the floor in transition.

This may never end up mattering, but Stevenson doesn’t have many traditional post moves. Given he’s more of a modern forward, he prefers to face up or play on the perimeter. If he were to expand his game to be more physical in the paint and get to his spots with his back to the basket, it would only take his offensive package to a new level.

Defensively, the 6-foot-11 forward still needs to improve before making the jump to the NBA. He boasts good athleticism and can block shots when needed, but holistically needs to become more versatile on that end. He’s not necessarily built to defend centers, but also doesn’t have the lateral quickness to be elite defending in space either. There’s a world in which that changes and he becomes one of the most versatile defenders in this class, but it will take time, training and reps.

Stevenson is still growing into his frame, which is expected out of a player who is still the age of a high school senior. As he adds weight and muscle, he will only become an even more versatile defender and impactful rebounder. When it comes to upside and potential, he’s one of the most fascinating in this class.

A former five-star recruit and No. 1 ranked power forward, Stevenson reclassified late in high school which is why he’s such a young prospect now. He comes from a basketball family, as his father played at Richmond and mother played for North Carolina.
