NBA Draft Scouting Report: Santa Clara’s Adama Bal
Adama Bal
Guard | Santa Clara
Height: 6'7” | Weight: 190 lbs
2024 Draft Age: 20.60
Prospect Profile
Entering his junior season, Bal is set to play in a new system as he transfers to Santa Clara. He will look to follow in the footsteps of Brandin Podziemski, who transferred the year prior and had a breakout season before being drafted in the first round.
Although he will have played three seasons before the 2024 NBA Draft, Bal came to college younger than most and will still be 20 on draft night. The French guard has fantastic size which should allow him to play upwards of three positions at the next level. The 6-foot-7 prospect is a late bloomer with the potential to be one of the fastest risers on draft boards over the next year.
While Bal was expected to potentially take that next step last season as a sophomore at Arizona, being in a new system will give him even more of an opportunity this year. He couldn’t carve out a major role with the Wildcats, playing just 214 minutes last season and 104 as a freshman. Although we don’t have much of a sample size at the college level for him, the one thing he did well last two seasons was shoot it from deep. He converted on 20 of his 51 triples the past two years, landing just under 40%.
Overall, Bal is still a very raw prospect that is extremely hard to evaluate. He has skillset to break out this season but may take time given how inexperienced he still is. Before the college level, Bal played for the CFBB Academy in Paris and also helped France earn a second place finish at the FIBA U16 European Championship in 2019. More recently, he competed in the FIBA U20 European Championships and looked much improved in larger role heading into his junior season.
Bal could very easily be a prospect teams take a swing on in the 2024 NBA Draft if he can simply show upside, even if his production isn’t off the charts this season.
