NBA Draft Scouting Report: Creighton's Baylor Scheierman
Baylor Scheierman
Wing | Creighton
Height: 6'7” | Weight: 205 lbs
2024 Draft Age: 23.73
Prospect Profile
An older prospect, Scheierman is set to be 23 at the time of the 2024 NBA Draft. A five-year college player, he has seen success both at South Dakota State and Creighton. He’ll be 24 years old most of his rookie season in the NBA after joining the 2024 NBA Draft class next summer.
Scheierman attended G League Elite Camp in 2022, but withdrew from the pre-draft process and transferred to Creighton. A year later, he was projected to be a second rounder in the 2023 NBA Draft, but again decided to go back to school.
Last season was Scheierman’s fourth at the college level, but his first at Creighton. In a new role and system, his efficiency really fell, especially from deep. In the two seasons prior to becoming a Bluejay, he shot 45.6% from from beyond the arc. Even then, he shot 36.4% last season and given that’s poor relative to his standards, it tells you how great of a shooter he is.
With that in mind, he’s had some big moments in the NCAA Tournament. He produced 21 points, including 5-of-7 from 3-point range, in the Sweet 16 on the big stage. His smooth lefty stroke is efficient as he’s the type of prospect that should make an offensive impact on the perimeter immediately in the NBA.
Scheierman can play jumbo off-ball guard or wing on offense, but does have some concerns defensively. Although he’s 6-foot-7, he is not a great athlete and could struggle to defend at the next level when he’s asked to take on bigger, stronger and faster players.
Regardless, the 3-point shooting will be enough for teams to consider taking him in the second-round in 2024. He’s a good positional rebounder as well and has great size. He’s also a creative passer that doesn’t get enough attention for his facilitation upside.
