Prospect Profile

Stewart is a strong forward and good athlete that projects to physically have a smooth transition to the NBA one day. As he goes up against more developed athletes at the college level, he’ll look to continue his dominant, physical style of play.

For starters, the Duke freshman is great on the glass. Even if he plays limited minutes in year one, he’ll surely be effective pulling down rebounds while he’s on the floor. Furthermore, he should generate second chance looks and provide a strong interior presence. Given his frame, he can contain players taller than him while also protecting the rim as a weakside defender.

Offensively, it will be interesting to see what type of role Stewart plays. He doesn’t project to be a primary scoring option, but is a good play finisher. He has good bounce and is a lob threat both in halfcourt settings and in transition. He’s also started to develop more of a face up game and has flashed some touch in the midrange.

If he can continue to improve as a shooter and even expand his range out to the 3-point line, that would unlock new things for him. This development could be the difference in him being a small ball five or more of a power forward at the next level. The jumper looks smooth for his size, but he needs to show a willingness to step out and hit shots consistently from the perimeter.

As of today, Stewart is more of a high motor defender with the ability to finish plays on offense. He’s undersized for his position, but plays with strength and power with a ton of mobility.

Stewart was part of the U17 United States team that won gold at the 2022 FIBA World Cup in Spain. The former five-star recruit was a top 25 player in his class that finished his high school career at Montverde has always played at a high level of competition. Basketball is a big part of his family, as his father played eight years in the NBA and grandfather was a standout at Santa Clara. Stewart will look to make the most at his time with the Blue Devils and be the next to have a great basketball career in his family.

As a freshman at Duke, he’ll get to play alongside a variety of future NBA talent in Kyle Filipowski, Mark Mitchell, Tyese Proctor, Caleb Foster, TJ Power and Jared McCain among others.
