Prospect Profile

A standout from NBA Academy Africa, Darlan is a playmaker with length that will play a variety of positions at the next level. Whether it’s as a jumbo guard off the ball or as a true wing, he can plug into nearly any lineup. He has effortless bounce, which makes him a highlight machine in transition on both offense and defense. Regardless of the stage, he always establishes himself as one of the best players on the floor and makes plays that impact winning.

Darlan has a ton of scoring upside, especially as a shooter. Whether it’s in rhythm from the perimeter or on the move creating for himself, he has the size and high release to shoot over nearly anyone. Moving forward, one thing he’ll need to showcase is his ability to shoot with more range, as the further he gets behind the line the more his mechanics change.

Despite being a quality scorer, Darlan is also a great passer for his size. He is crafty when dishing to his teammates, which often results in unique passes with flare, but other times gets him in trouble as he does too much and misses the easy play. This is especially true as it relates to pick-and-roll actions, as he can be turnover prone as the ball handler in those situations by making the wrong read.

Although his build appears thin, Darlan is stronger than he looks. He is active on defense and leverages his long arms to guard players taller than him. He overall gives good energy and effort on that end and communicates well. He’s also a good shot blocker for a guard/wing and has great timing when attempting to high point the ball.

In the upcoming season with the G League Ignite, he’ll be playing with a ton of future NBA talent. Most notably, Darlan will take the floor with Matas Buzelis, Ron Holland, Izan Almansa, Babacar Sane, Dink Pate, Tyler Smith and more. He may not have the opportunity to be a primary scoring option given who is on the roster, but that could end up being a good thing as he will have the chance to showcase new parts of his game and complimentary skillets.
